Personal Statement

I want to swim in college and, if possible, get some sort of financial aid (athletic or merit) while doing so. As a high school freshman I performed well for both my high school and club team and feel I can continue to improve as I get stronger both physically and mentally. This year, as a sophomore, I have continued to improve on my times and have made MIAA State cuts in all strokes for high school. At States, I set two individual school records (100Fly & 200IM) and was on two CCHS record setting relays, as well. I led the team in points and helped CCHS finish 8th in the Division 1 State Championships (our best finish ever). I was also the top point achiever at this year's New England Swimming 15-18 Age Group Championships at Boston University in March. I assisted my club team (Phoenix Swimming) in finishing 1st overall. I also qualified for 5 events at the Speedo Sectionals at Ithaca, NY in March.

Also, I am enrolled in the Honors Program at Central Catholic HS and have made honor roll in each of my last six terms. As a sophomore, I was inducted into the National Honor Society. I am hoping that the combination of my strong academics, swimming capabilities and work ethic will help me get into a top-rated college (both academics and athletics). Other activities include playing drums for the CCHS Jazz Band, writing for the school newspaper, being our homeroom representative and volunteering at the Lawrence Boys and Girls Club.

Awards and Activities

  • AwardsHonor Roll in final 3 terms of my Freshman Year while participating in Central Catholic's rigorous Honors Program. I achieved a GPA of 3.79 and a weighted GPA of 4.10 In April of 2014, as only a sophomore, I was the lone student speaker to over 500 parents of incoming freshmen at "Accepted Students Night". My speech lasted five minutes and I spoke of the benefits of CCHS and the rewards of being involved in multiple activities at the school. I also discussed the importance of being a student first and athlete second, but always striving to be your best at anything you do. As a junior, I was asked to speak again due to the positive response from my prior year's speech.
  • ActivitiesI am my homeroom class representative. I also have written for the school newspaper and play drums for the CCHS Jazz Band. During this summer, I volunteered for the entire summer at Camp Lawrence (YMCA).
