I've been swimming for most of my life by this point, but my competitive edge wasn't brought out until my YMCA team shut down, and I joined a more competitive club team in 7th grade. At that point, I became way more competitive but still less focused. I didn't really double down on swimming until my freshman varsity season. The sectionals championship was coming up, and our coach read the lineup, and my name wasn't on it. After that, I started to practice like nobody else on that team. In fact, my teammates got worried about me one day when I missed a practice because I had consistently gone to every single practice that was available for months in a row. This hard work finally paid off, as I was not only able to swim in sectionals my sophomore year, but I even made finals, and I am now one of the better swimmers on my team.
Swimming has taught me so much about myself that I never would have known. Over these past years, I've learned just how hard I can push myself, and I've swum times that would simply astonish my freshman self. I have faced my share of issues, though. In fact, I was almost knocked out of the sectional championship that I had worked so hard for by a nasty tendinitis in my shoulder. This really helped teach me a valuable lesson, not only about swimming, but about life. I learned the hard way that it is important to balance everything, and that recovery can be the most important thing that you do.
Academically, I'm no stranger to my school's high achievement list, but I'd like to be more consistent with making it so that I can continue to be proud of my academics. I plan to take AP Computer Science my junior year, and I'd love to major in something related to computer science or STEM, possibly with a minor in some kind of business or accounting.
