I began swimming at a young age in China. Upon arriving in Canada, a hiatus from the sport meant I had to start at square one again. I was able to break out in my freshman high school season by dropping 10 seconds and achieving 4th place in the 100m freestyle at OFSAA 2019.
The following season, I suffered early-season setbacks from injuries, followed by disturbances in my training schedule due to maintenance at several of my training facilities. After putting up unsatisfactory performances in the first half of the season, I was determined to return to peak form. Through months of independent training, I eventually won silver at OFSAA 2020 in the 100m freestyle and won the B finals of the 50m freestyle, setting two PBs.
Although my sophomore season was far from ideal, it had the effect of strengthening my determination towards the sport and pushed me to join North York Aquatic Club (NYAC) at the start of my junior year. Through the adjustment to heightened training intensity and a new environment, I've learned discipline, perseverance, and teamwork. It would be my dream to continue swimming in university.
