I grew up in a diverse blue collar neighborhood. My solo mom taught me to embrace others as they are, and appreciate being part of a community. My mom taught me to swim when I was one year old, and at five I began swimming with the park district swim team, until I wanted to swim year round. I have swum with the same small club team nearly since it began (I was 10), and my close teammates are like family.
I enjoy challenge and hard work. I love to swim anchor on relays, as that key position propels me with the added determination to support my relay, my friends, with all I’ve got. Academically, I earned a prestigious merit-based scholarship to a great high school, though it is a 1.5 hour bus ride across town to my club team every day! Although the commute is long, I am grateful for being part of both worlds, and swimming for both teams.
In college I want to swim for the team, and I am academically focused on a university with a biomedical engineering program to combine my love of math and physics with emergency medicine, to gain skills to help people in many possible ways.
