Everyone always says "Academics come first. " While academics are very important, I would love it if the expression was "Tennis comes first." Throughout my high school career I have done well at a rigorous school taking AP and honors classes. Combined with the rigor, my school is an hour drive away. During my junior year, I also worked on and completed my Eagle Scout Project to attain Eagle Scout Rank. The combination of these three things limited the amount of tournaments I could play.
There is more to tennis then having good strokes. Attitude and the will to win is just as important. One facet I could bring to a team is a never give up attitude. I have my own personal philosophy, "one more ball." Striving to return one more shot can be the difference between winning or losing a point.
I have played on my school's varsity team since my freshman year, when I played the 5th court. Sophomore year I moved up to 2nd court and made All-Conference. My junior I played the 1st court, was my team's MVP, made All Conference, was runner-up for Conference Player of the Year, and one vote away from All-State. For my senior year, I am in position to play the #1 court again as co-captain of our team. The experience I gained while achieving my Eagle Scout will heIp me in my role as a leader for the varsity tennis team. I hope to improve even more during and for my senior year and make myself an asset on and off the court, in my sport and in my academics, for whichever college I attend.
