I have been fascinated with any and all kinds of sports since I was toddler. Give me a ball and I could throw it, catch it, hit it. I checked all the boxes in regard to youth sports. Soccer – check. T-Ball then baseball – check. Basketball – check. But I didn’t know what I was missing until I attended a tennis summer camp when I was 5 years old. I was hooked. Well … initially I was frustrated because they had me hitting as a righty but I am a true lefty. Once we were all on the same page – it all came together. I have been playing ever since.
I still continued playing soccer and basketball because I enjoyed the team aspect, but I still had tennis lessons after practice. I honestly believe that playing other sports until I started my freshman year of high school helped my tennis game.
I was accepted to Strake Jesuit College Preparatory High School knowing that a lot was going to be asked of me academically. I knew that I was going to work harder than I have ever before because I wanted to succeed academically and play for the school tennis team. I wanted to be successful in both! I was their number one freshman player and started playing varsity my sophomore year.
I am a hard worker and have had a few personal challenges to overcome. My family home has been flooded twice, but when Harvey hit in August 2017 we lost everything. Through my friendships, my amazing school community and playing tennis and leaning on my teammates we have successfully begun a new adventure as a family.
I feel through any and all challenges I have been able to grow, learn and help others. I feel like you can see that in my attitude, as well as in my tennis game. I am ready to go play for a college that can help me bring my game to the next level and challenge me academically. I feel it is time to pay back my parents with all the opportunities they have given me by playing tennis competitively in college.
