I am a junior at High Tech High North County and plan to run at a high level. I am a distance runner who does cross country and track and field. I specialize in the 400m, 800m, 1600m, and the 3200m. In both cross country and track and field I am a captain who continues to push my teammates. Off the field I am a studious person and look to motivate my peers through the projects I am assigned to.
Originally my goal was to play tackle football at some different school so I played with a club team to build skills for the team. In order to stay in shape for the season and during the days that I didn't train with my team I started running a mile or so around my neighborhood. Although my running was not consistent I did see improvement and over time I was able to run my loop around my neighborhood faster every time. The whole tackle football thing fell apart due to my vacation and I was disappointed. On the way back from a vacation my mom asked me if I wanted to do cross country as she described it involved running long distance and instinctively without even knowing the distance of a cross country race said sure why not. Starting freshman year I really wanted to improve in the cross country season and took my anger on not playing football and dialed it in on running. My training plan my freshman year was inconsistent but yet even with this I was third on varsity as a freshman.
Through the track season, I started to perfect my craft of running and slowly my coach believed that I should be a distance runner so I started putting in the miles and getting workouts from other high schools. After this season I ran club track and drastically improved my times. All this running translated to me running at CIF State in Fresno California with a time of 17:32 in the next cross-country season. To this day I continue to run consistently and improve with my research about breathing methods, form, and more.
Continuing into my junior season, I felt that I didn't perform up to the standards I set for myself, as a result of this, I raised my mileage going into my senior year. Today I run 60 miles per week and made a drastic jump with a 5k PR of 15:53.5 and a 3 mile PR of 15:12.0. Along with this, I have continued to become more consistent with weight training, running research, and other outside running training. Going forward I have my goals set high and ready to go to the next level with any means necessary.
