Kira Cook '23 Recruiting Profile

My name is Kira Cook and I am a softball player in the class of 2023. I am a catcher, an outfielder, and a utility player. I am currently playing for the Big FlyAthletics travel club in north San Diego County.  Being the catcher, I monitor the entire field and stay in contact with all of the players. 

I have a very high interest in teaching special education and would love to pursue my college education while playing for my college. 

I currently attend High Tech High North County and will graduate in the spring of 2023, and I will be a junior this upcoming fall. I am playing on the travel team Big Fly Athletics Softball out of San Diego, California.  We have actively been working on fielding, cardio, strength-training, continually practicing, scrimmaging, and participating in games as safely as possible amid COVID-19.

I am in the top 13% of my class with a 4.17 GPA.  I’ve been researching schools that offer an Elementary Education undergraduate degree program with an emphasis in Special Education K-12. I would like to teach children with special needs.

During the summer I volunteer at Rancho Coastal Humane Society. 

I have played at the ASA Western Nationals in Medford, Oregon. Our team represented San Marcos, California extremely well, placing 3rd.  Never before had a team from San Marcos placed this high in a national championship.

Finding the right college to play as part of the school's softball team is very important.  I hope that I can continue playing the sport I love while getting the education I need to follow my career path.
