I live by the mantra of "hard work over time beats talent." Even though competitors may be more talented than me, I’m not intimidated because I know I can out-work them. If I am to run at your school, I hope to bring this mentality to the rest of your program. My name is Kevin Loftus, and I am a Junior at Lake Zurich High School in Lake Zurich, Illinois. Prior to high school, I used Cross Country/Track as a way to train and improve my endurance for soccer and basketball which were my primary sports at the time; however, this abruptly ended the summer going into Freshman year. The decision to stop basketball and soccer to run was not an easy one at the time, but I definitely made the right choice. I immediately became incredibly zealous about the sport of distance running and have never looked back. I look forward to extending this passion beyond High School and pursuing it as a student athlete at a university that will help me develop not only as a runner, but also challenge me as a student, as academics are always my top priority. My specialty is cross country but I can compete at any distance event on the track as well. I have lofty aspirations and I am looking for a program that will launch me towards reaching my goals. More importantly I want to be a part of a university that maintains a close-knit team environment, where the main focus is achieving success as a team. Thank you for your consideration.
