I first threw a javelin in fifth grade at the Waldorf Northeast Regional "Olympics" and enjoyed the beauty of the sport and was proud to receive a gold medal for form. I jumped at the next opportunity to throw a javelin in school and joined the track team at Cushing Academy. I enjoyed the two meets I was able to participate in last year and was able to place first in javelin at each event, despite a shoulder injury.
Wanting to throw better, I started working with Coach Mark Mirabelli to improve my technique and avoid further injury. I also worked construction last summer and gained forty pounds of muscle that I am hoping to put to use in order to reach my goal of throwing over 160 feet before starting college. I have been working with an orthopedist and physical therapist to get my shoulder ready for the spring season. I am also fortunate to be able to continue to work with Coach Mirabelli and am looking forward to seeing the training pay off.
I do enjoy challenging myself and am known at school for my work habits. I usually go to bed before 8pm and wake up at 4:30am to work out and complete my school work. Despite the difficulties of switching between online and in-person learning, I have maintained straight A's since arriving at Cushing Academy. I enjoy intellectual discussions and appreciate the opportunities I have to connect with teachers outside of class to learn more about subjects beyond the curriculum. l am an active participant in the boarding school community and feel ready to engage in college life.
I realize that I have not yet achieved the distances that would catch a coach's interest. My intention is to change that as soon as I am able. I would ask that you consider looking at my spring distances. I am hoping to earn a place on your team.
Update:
I have been throwing farther this spring despite some nagging limitations due to the injury. I have qualified for the New England Championships in Javelin and also in the 4x400 Relay. Unfortunately, I will be graduating the day of the event and will not be able to attend.
