I genuinely love the sport of volleyball and want to continue my career in college at a school with both strong athletics and academics. I am someone who is extremely hard working and loves to be challenged mentally and physically. I like to surround myself with people who have high goals and standards to help motivate me. I am at my best when working, whether it is on or off the court.
Through my training, volleyball has taught me that mental toughness and court smarts are equally as important as the game's physical aspect. If the team is down, it is essential to pick each other up and move on to the next play. I consider myself a leader on and off the court, so I feel it is fundamental to focus on retaining a positive attitude throughout the game. One of my best character traits is that after I make a mistake during a game, I crave for the next ball to come to me to show what I can do. My family would tell you that I enjoy being a setter because I like being able to control the game - they aren’t wrong.
My parents are the biggest influences in my life. They are exceptionally hard-working, giving, and considerate. As my role-models, I grew up to be very ambitious, empathetic, and outgoing. Before I moved away from home to attend boarding school, I spent my weekends teaching dance to young children, so once I moved away, it only felt fitting for me to continue helping others and volunteer in Special Olympics every Sunday morning at school. My entire life, my father has owned Tim Hortons stores; even my earliest memory is in one of his stores. Every ‘Camp Day,’ my brother and I would go to work with my dad to raise money for children who were less fortunate than most kids our age, younger, and older.
I am very passionate about my academics. In my sophomore year, I transitioned into a boarding school, being very driven and wanting to be challenged. Since then, I have enrolled in AP and Honor classes becoming a more robust student each day. I am also very involved in the community as a junior class representative, head tour guide, and student leader. I am apart of the Student weekends activity team and Kindness Club. In college, I hope to study business, law, and psychology.
