My name is Seville Louissaint and I am a projected 2023 graduate at Commack High School in New York. I have been on the Varsity team of the Commack Track and Field since 9th grade competing in the 400m, 200m, Mile, Triple Jump , and Long Jump categories. In 2022, the highlight year so far, I placed 4th in the Suffolk County Championship with a triple jump of 40.4 feet. I’m a proud member of the team that won the Suffolk County Championship for 2022. As a senior, I have been selected as the Captain of the Winter Track Team at Commack. I cannot wait to see what we do this year, I’ve been hard at work at the gym, plan to jump and run the 600m, and I look forward to continuing my Track journey in college.
To any coach reading this, I want to underscore how important track has been to me as a First Generation athlete. As a first generation kid, I had no clue about the track world-my family was totally focused on education, church, and family. I jumped onto the track and worked hard to be successful. The support, community, pride, push, and challenge I have been able to get from my involvement in sports, more particularly from Track has impacted how I hold myself out to society.
Track and Field helped me adjust to a new school in a new state and has been a constant in my life. Throughout my high school career, track and field has become my safe space. I love to compete even with losses and wins. To me losing shouldn’t be something that gets you down-it should be something that helps you improve and get better so you don’t lose the next race . Track and Field is what I love to do and will forever enjoy competing in.
As an athlete I’ve developed a willingness to get a better life through higher education. I want to pursue Physical Therapy or Nursing as a profession. Ultimately, I want to bring pride to my Haitian community through my academic and physical achievements. I’ve learned through track that I am persistent and determined. I plan to bring that same level if persistency and determination to a team if I am fortunate enough to be a recruited member.
