My name is Conor Convery, and I am a hammer thrower. I have played various sports throughout my childhood; soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, t-ball, and football. When I was in 7th grade I joined the throwing club my sister was in. I would occasionally go to practice with her. My parents built a circle at home so we would go out and practice . That spring/summer I started competing at USATF meets in discus and shotput. I continued training, and going into my freshman year began training in hammer as well. I really enjoy throwing, and the chance to compete against myself while continuing to improve. I have made some good friends both through the school and the club.
As a sophomore I was voted captain of my varsity throwing team. I try to provide good leadership skills to the rest of the team, and be a positive role model as well.
I believe that I would be a valuable member to a collegiate team because I have a positive work ethic, I am very coachable, and I am a leader.
My academic goals are to pursue a degree in genetic engineering. To that respect I am looking for a school that offers a strong undergraduate program in a compatible field prior to pursuing my graduate, and probably doctorate degrees.
