Most of my friends think of me as a runner. My teachers know me as the kid who likes math and science more than English and history. My dad thinks of me as the kid who likes cars a little too much. I think of myself as a kid with an abundance of business ideas and a passion for finding problems to solve.
For Christmas in 2019, my dad bought me drone, which was the best present I ever received! I have always been fascinated with electronics and flying and am also passionate about photography and video. After a few flights for fun, I thought maybe I could make money with the drone. Why not? It was an amazing piece of equipment with incredible photo and video taking capabilities, and I wanted to put it to work. I overheard my dad’s realtor friend say that licensed drone pilot/photographers were hard to find and too expensive if she did find one, problem solved! I will be available and affordable. This is when Mzed Drone Photo and Video Services, LLC (Mzedphoto.godaddysites.com) was born. There was one obstacle though; I could not operate the drone for commercial purposes until I obtained my unmanned aircraft systems (UAS)-FAA certificate. I studied for the exam and became a FAA -certified remote pilot in January 2020. This gave me the privilege of flying a commercial drone to operate my business: taking photos and videos of homes for sale for local realtors. I have since had a few paying jobs and plan on doing more as time allows. I am in the process of developing a virtual business card, which will have links to my website, contact information, and LinkedIn profile. One of the ways I will expand my client base is to use my virtual business card at open house events and present it to local realtors. People do business with people they like, and this will add a personal touch to my marketing. Part of the thrill for me is using the photo and video editing software on the custom computer I built entirely on my own.
My interests in computers and technology also led me to use my computer to operate my Amazon-certified drop shipping business, which I recently started. Lately, my niche has been barbecuing grills. I made $1200 on my first day. As I gain seed money, my business will grow; truly, you need money to make money.
In addition to my drone and drop shipping business, I make a passive income of about $10 per day mining cryptocurrency, like Bitcoin. My graphics card (the brain of the computer) is utilized through software called Nice Hash to solve algorithms automatically, the solutions of which are converted into real currency. The high-powered computer I built is valuable and is used by a network of other miners because the complex decoding operation requires many high-powered computers like mine-to-mine bitcoin. I can increase the amount of crypto currency that my computer mines per day through an optimization method called overclocking. This is very similar to what I do to tune my car through the Engine Control Unit), which can increase reliability and gas mileage as well as increase power output.
Inherently, businesses solve problems. I realize that the businesses I am running now are stepping-stones and learning experiences.
Eventually, I will combine my interest in business with my passion for STEM to run and operate a business that solves problems through health care. Specifically, my focus is on using knowledge I gain in college and in dental school to enhance others’ lives, possibly on a global scale. I am interested in following in my father’s footsteps to become a dentist, with a specialty in orthodontics or oral surgery. Perhaps, I can find ways to make these valuable services more accessible to those who are underprivileged, leaving this world a better place.
