Thank you for this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Gavin Lenz and I graduated from Grace Christian School in Sanford, NC.
Over the last 11 plus years of education in a private school setting, I have worked hard both athletically and academically to become the best all-around person that I can be.
Both my father, who served in the US Army and my mom, who has served in coaching roles with my Cross Country team, have instilled in me the importance of leadership and leading by example. My parents, have been huge pillars of support for me in not only my development as a person but as an athlete.
My peers on the cross country team recognized me four consecutive years as Team Captain. I have been blessed with great teachers and coaches that have allowed me to excel in both the classroom and on the cross country course as well.
Academically, I have received numerous distinctions including National Honor Society, Principal’s List 4 consecutive years, National Beta Club, where I have served as Vice President, Key Club member, Interact Club member, as well as Leadership Club member.
In Cross Country, I was 4 -time Mid Carolina Conference Winner as well as 4-time Mid Carolina Conference Runner of the Year. I have also managed to be ranked in the Top 4 in the last 3 years in the NCISAA 1A and have won numerous races. Our Cross Country Team won the State Championship title 2 years in a row.
Whether in the Classroom or on the trail, I am constantly focused on improving. In terms of Cross Country, I have drastically cut my time each year and have been working hard in the off season preparing for the races. Academically, I am always seeking opportunity to learn from others. I have been blessed to have great teachers that have challenged me to be the best that I can be.
For my senior year, I made the decision to attend Grace Christian School, where I was challenged more spiritually and academically. That decision was not an easy one but was a great example of the hard decisions that we face in life. Decisions may not always be easy, but they allow me to position myself with bigger challenges to help me to get out of my comfort zone.
My goal for college is to compete among the best in cross country and run long distance track events. I am currently training for ultra marathons.
As I approach my future, I will continue to put in the work, time and effort to becoming the best I can be. The new chapter has started…
