I discovered my love of running in 7thgrade when I joined the school track team. I have been playing soccer since age 4 and I thought running would improve my endurance on the soccer field. Not only did running improve my endurance, but I realized that running, not soccer, is my true passion.
Due to my father’s service in the Air Force, I attended four different school districts by the time my father retired when I was in 6thgrade. Those moves made me resilient and adept at handling change. I started kindergarten at age 4, so in Texas I am a year younger than my classmates. Although I am younger, and initially smaller, than my teammates in my grade, I overcame that obstacle by training harder to catch up to them. Through my sport, I have learned that I thrive on the comradery with my teammates and the healthy competition we have with each other. When we train and compete, we push each other to continually improve. Each day of training and every race is a chance for a new personal record. I have also discovered through running that I have a strong work ethic. Six days a week I’m at the high school by 6 or 6:30 am to train with my coach and teammates. I have a great respect for my coach and teammates, and I’m looking forward to working with them on our shared goal of making the state cross country tournament this fall. After the disappointment that our team endured after we failed to qualify for state by one point last fall, I’m even more dedicated to that making it to Round Rock this year.
My academic goals in high school are to be prepared for college and graduate in the top 10% of my class. In college, I will continue to strive for academic excellence in the pursuit of my degree. I look forward to continuing my cross country and track career in college. I feel that my passion, resilience, competitiveness, teamwork, dedication to academics, and ability to overcome obstacles will be an asset to your team.
