I am a good candidate for a collegiate volleyball team because I am committed to academics and playing on a volleyball team. Volleyball is one of several essential factors in choosing a college. My goal is to join a team at the college I attend and play professionally after I graduate. My journey to volleyball has been unique and exciting.
It was sophomore year when I started as a novice volleyball player after school and during gym class. My participation in volleyball during my sophomore year was just for fun and to explore different extracurricular activities in school. I initially decided to join the volleyball team to have something to do after school and to play sports again. However, I soon realized how much I needed to improve. I did not want to continue disappointing my new team, so I made volleyball the most important extracurricular activity.
After several months of playing and practicing, I fell in love with volleyball. My coach once said to me “Every part of your body is your platform” and I took that literally. My primary position in the sport is a libero, where everything slows down for me when I play. The ball going 60 miles per hour looks like an inflatable yoga ball, and I can accurately predict where the ball is going to go. It may differ in college and the pro league; however, I can adapt quickly. I learned how to read the hitter, dig, jump serve, and accurately pass to my setter consistently after one season. I am an excellent college volleyball candidate because I can quickly adapt and learn. Furthermore, I am perfect for playing libero due to my quickness. I use my speed to cover vast spaces; even though I am short for a libero, my quick reaction time allows me to move to places others cannot.
I have one sport that I absolutely love, and that is volleyball. It is paramount to my future goal of playing volleyball professionally, hopefully playing for USA.
