I began to love volleyball during COVID quarantine in 2020. I would go outside and practice for hours everyday, making my friends and family help be practice, too. When I was in 8th grade, I decided to join the girls volleyball team. I was so excited to just be able to participate in a sport that I loved so much, even if things were difficult due to our struggles as a team. In high school, I was not able to play volleyball anymore as I had begun my transition as a transgender male and there were not opportunities for me.
Over the past year, I have begun to love volleyball once again. I keep up with my favorite international teams every week and get so excited to watch the games. I tried out for KODA volleyball club, but spots on the team were limited and I unfortunately did not make it. I still feel as though it was a great learning opportunity nonetheless and I was so grateful to be able to play with others and gain experience.
I'm constantly working to improve my skills as well as my stamina. There are not many opportunities in my area to play volleyball in my area but i am always searching for them and trying to figure out any chances to get more practice.
I find that the sport takes up a majority of my life these days and I am working my hardest to prepare for College, where I plan to major in public health. I am deeply passionate about the medical field and this year I have the chance to be a part of the New Visions Allied Health program through BOCES, which I feel that I am doing very well in. The workload is college level at times, but I feel that I am able to balance school and volleyball well.
I believe that I am a good asset to the team because of my positive mindset and constant willingness to improve. Any chance i get, I am simply so grateful to be able to play with others, and winning is not the only thing that matters to me. At the end of the day, as long as I get to play the sport that I'm passionate about, winning or losing is not at the forefront of my mind, and I am prepared to give my all regardless of any challenges.
