My name is Nathan Wheeler. I have been playing volleyball for 4 years now, and have just reached the end of my freshman year of high school where is was the starting libero, and defensive specialist. Though I may be a libero now, I intend to make the switch over to setter seeing as that has been my position every other year, and our teams setter this year has graduated leaving an open spot. Ever since I stepped foot onto the court my first year playing in the seventh grade, I have known that I wanted to take this sport to higher levels. I have seemed out as many chances to play volleyball as I can, playing beach volleyball this summer due to the gyms being closed. I worked as hard as I could during the off-season to get my game well beyond the level it was at, because I was making the switch from u-14 Where the nets I could almost reach over, to the high school level where the game was played faster, harder, and smarter than those at the younger ages. I believe that starting for a team that won the regional championship, and in my opinion would have won provincials too had it not been for its cancellation, shows that I rose to that challenge of the different level of play and overcame it. By the end of the year I was playing defensive specialist against twelfth graders that were a head taller than me, but still my coach trusted me to face them head on. In terms of academics, all my teachers notice me as one of their brightest students who really picks up on the things they teach very quickly. I have a love for the mathematics, and English. Though some sciences may not be the most exciting for me to seek further education into them, I have been recommended by my teacher to pursue AP chemistry, and AP physics, which I intend to do in the coming year. In conclusion, I believe that in the two years I have left in high school I will excel and go beyond the rest of the competition in not only athletics, but also academics.
