Mika Chong '21 Recruiting Profile

Growing up with parents who were athletes in their youth, I grew up playing many sports: swim, golf, soccer, competitive volleyball. But among all these sports, my love for softball remained the strongest ever since I started playing at the age of 6. Being an only child, I wanted to play team sports since my teammates became my extended family (my sisters). We support each other like a family, without judgment. 

Softball has become more than just a sport for me; it’s become a passion and livelihood that I can’t live without, and why I aspire to continue playing through college as a student athlete. I graduate in 2021 and have been playing in the Catcher and 3rd Base positions, and have been asked on occasion to play other positions in a pinch. No problem. 

My strength has been at the plate with my bat. I have crazy drills that I practice daily that not only strengthen my muscle memory but also my mindset, which transfers to the field. When game time arrives, I apply all that preparation without thought, so in high leverage situations, I execute as I’ve practiced with much success. I’ve been told that my mindset is one of my attributes that sets me apart from others. I approach each game with calmness and confidence, sprinkled with goofiness. I’d love to bring that to my future college team and make an impact to the program.
