I've been playing tennis since I was six years old and haven't stopped since. When I was young, tennis was a sport I genuinely enjoyed and felt good at which inspired me to continue it. What's really special about my tennis experience is that I've been with the same coach for seven years. I started playing competitively in 6th grade and played singles in middle school then went to high school and played Varsity doubles freshman year and went up to Varsity singles sophomore year and junior year.
Being with the same coach has helped me a lot because she was able to know my strengths and weaknesses right from the start and each year I grew. By playing tennis I've learned to push through obstacles and never underestimate what you're capable of. If you have a positive mindset you are going to perform better. It just starts with confidence in yourself and I surprised myself a lot when I thought positively. When I was a sophomore I played singles in the Peninsula Athletic League up against a senior who had been playing in PALs since she was a freshman. I didn't let the fact that she was a senior and experienced stop me from going for it and in the end, I beat in her in a three-set game and went on to play in the next round. My goals in college are to find a career that I love whether that be business, athletics or music.
I think something really special I have when it comes to skill is my backhand. The power in which I can do kill shots with my backhand is something that I've used to my advantage in matches. As I approach my senior year in the fall of 2021 I plan on training two hours a day while also managing the boys' tennis team. I was also nominated by my coach to be the caption of the Girls Tennis Team for my 2021 senior year. I look forward to leading my team to many victories with the goal of going to the Central Coast Sectionals.
