I've played competitive sports for as long as I can remember, and I have always loved the adrenaline rush of pushing myself to my physical and mental limits. I've tried individual sports and even played varsity tennis at my high school (my father was a top professional tennis coach), but I have found that I am truly a team-oriented player. I love the feeling of being part of something, and count my teammates as some of my best friends. Almost like family, like you have to work things out when things aren't going great, but of course, there is no one better to enjoy the successes with, either! Playing competitive boys ice hockey and AAA level girls hockey has definitely toughened me up (full checking in the boys divisions), and I have always brought that edge to my softball game. I have been fortunate that I don't think I have had to overcome a lot of "obstacles", however, there were instances while on the boys hockey teams that our opponents did not treat me well, and I certainly had to stand up for myself.
Academically, I am extremely interested in the arts and media. I have a full portfolio that I have assembled for colleges to see. I enjoy sketching, particularly portraits with some sort of unique artistic signature. I have also performed on stage and have played piano for 10 years. My father thinks I should choose one passion and focus just on that, but I find myself wanting to do so many things, as I find them all so exhilarating to me. I feel like the college experience will help me decide on my true direction, and finding the right college will influence that decision immensely. I can't wait!
