I am from Harwood Heights, Illinois, am 15 years old, and have a great passion for softball. I began playing when I was 12 and was leagues behind my teammates in terms of skill, and I had a huge fear of the ball. Instead of quitting and trying a new sport, I turned this into my motivation. Every day after I finished school and homework, in order to maintain high honor roll, I went to my local park and threw a ball against a wall. I did this everyday for upwards of two hours a day, or until the sun went down. I would even do this deep into the winter until my fingers went numb from the cold. Even when it was too cold to play outside, softball was always on my mind. After three years of this, I was given the most improved player award for my eighth grade team. This pushed me to work even harder over the summer and by my freshman year I was one of only two 9th graders chosen to play on varsity at Ridgewood High School. Unfortunately, the season was cut short due to COVID-19, but next year I plan on gaining my varsity position back and making it a memorable year. As of right now, I play for the Windy City Sandlot and am trying to improve my skills in any way I can. I hope to continue playing softball into my college years because I truly love every aspect of it.
