This past summer, as I was putting my Academic Award Certificate into my memory box, I found my third grade ISAT report card. I pulled it out and saw the words Academic Warning. I sat down and thought wow how hard school was for me in the beginning. When I was younger I struggled with reading. I remember the frustrations I felt. I wondered why it was so easy for everyone else? Why does my sister make it look so easy? However, I had a teacher who worked with me every day and encouraged me. I kept working hard at becoming a better reader and I did.
While I was working hard at school. I was also working hard on the softball field. I started playing travel softball around 9 years old. My favorite position soon became catcher. Being a catcher required me to focus. I never knew which way the ball was going to go and lots of balls were over my head or at my feet.
Each new season I still loved being a catcher. Catching required me to stay focused. Staying focused helped me in school and soon school became easier. I want to continue that same development and focus at each level of school and softball: travel, high school and college. My goal is to play college softball. I want to continue to work on improving as a catcher and as a team player. I enjoy the relationship I have with the pitchers and my teammates. I enjoy the way it feels when my teammates and I make a great play together. There is nothing better than that feeling
I wish I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life after the softball field, but I do not yet. There are many career choices I am interested in, but deciding today what I want to do with my life is too early to tell. I plan on researching different career choices to help guide me as I am closer to making a college choice. I am actively involved in my high school. I am a member of the student council. During advisory, I am an office aide and have various responsibilities during that time. I am also on the school's basketball team. My favorite part of high school is softball and my role as the starting varsity catcher..
