During July of 2019, I was blessed with the opportunity to travel to Barcelona, Spain to be coached by and play for three time Olympic Gold medalist Leah O’Brien- Amico on America’s Team. Leah and the experience completely changed my life.
I picked up a softball for the first time when I was about two years old and I have been pitching since I have been six years old. Being a pitcher has shaped me into who I am today... an encouraging, determined, hard working leader who has the ability to overcome less than ideal situations with maturity. I am constantly pushing myself to be better than I was the day before, and I strive to be the best I can possibly be. Being coached by Leah further enhanced my key characteristics.
I am so beyond thankful for my mom and dad for bringing softball into my life. In 2016, when I was only eleven years old, my mom was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer. I was terrified knowing that the odds were slim, but only two things took my mind off of what my mom was going through... playing softball and being with my friends. When I was on the field doing what I love, all my worries went away, and I was playing for my mom, regardless of if she felt well enough to come see me play or not. She has been cancer free for about five years and I still to this day get the same excitement when I see her in the stands. I am so grateful that I had softball as an outlet.
I have what it takes both academically and athletically to be able to play softball at the collegiate level. I balance a challenging course load at a college preparatory high school while practicing six days a week. Those six days include pitching, hitting, fielding, and weight training. With rigorous academics along with softball, I am able to maintain a high GPA. I am a very conscientious student and I want to be pushed and challenged during my collegiate softball career and my studies. Due to my success in time management, I already have some experience under my belt. I cannot wait to play the sport I love and further my academics in college, following with medical school.
