I am a 5’10 utility/CF/Catcher from Binghamton, NY. I graduate in 2021 and played on the JV Softball team at Binghamton High School and play travel softball all year around with Southern Tier Smoke 16U. I have played softball officially since the age of 9; playing rec league from 9-16; school ball from 12 to present and Travel league for various teams since the age of 10. My love for softball found me around the age of 7. Softball basically raised me. My first softball memory is watching my Mom play on an adult co-ed slow pitch league. I wanted to play so badly, but I was only 7 and local teams in my area won’t let you play before the age of 9 and you weren’t eligible to play for school teams until 7th grade (age 11 or 12). That was going to be entirely too long to wait, so I began practicing with my mom. I would shag balls, hit of the T, and play outfield. This is where I first learned what it was like to be on team. I was one of them, to young and small to play in games, but still valuable to the team. I loved this feeling and I knew I wanted to be part of this Softball thing forever!
Softball taught me to be independent, and responsible for myself and others. Through softball, I have made friendships and working relationships with people from various walks of life who all found something we have in common, our love softball. The experiences I have had throughout the years taught me tolerance, patience, and determination. Some people run to relieve stress, some people do yoga, I do softball!
Academically, I have learned to challenge myself even when there is an easier option available. This year (10th grade) I took two AP classes, in subjects that I am not known to be the strongest in. When I made the decision, I was told I could withdraw and take regular 10th grade classes at any time, but I stuck with it. I struggled, boy did I struggle and barely passed my AP English class and fell short of passing the final for AP Euro scoring below the needed 65, with a 63. I am currently taking a prep class to re-take the Exam in August, 2019. I could have definitely made things easier on myself by taking the standard 10th grade classes, but I believe you should challenge yourself whenever possible, even falling short/failure teaches a lesson. I am not afraid of hard work, I am determined and goal oriented and always try to do my best in anything I do, even if it is outside my comfort zone.
I want to attend a college that will challenge me academically as well as one that will help me down the path to pursue a career in Psychology. I am intrigued by the human mind, thoughts, emotions and behavioral attributes. My ultimate goal is to become a Psychologist/Therapist to sports teams/players. The increase in domestic violence, drug use and bad behavior by many involved in the sports industry shows that there is a real need for mental wellness to be as important as physical fitness. How can a player perform well physically, in life or on the field if mental health and fitness is not placed as a priority? These are ordinary people, with extraordinary lives, and with that comes extraordinary problems.
I am very focused on fulfilling my dreams both athletically and academically and plan to continue challenging myself to become the best version of me possible both on and off the field. If recruited, I will do my best at all times to represent myself and the school in the best way possible.
