Hello Coaches,
Hi my name is Sabrina Lydia Colon. I want to go to college. High school usually teaches us facts but it is limited in teaching us about developing our own opinions in certain things and topics. High school is designed for us to learn what they want they want us to learn. It is my opinion that attending college teaches students how to construct their opinions into valid arguments and value their own opinion. It teaches them how to assess information and it teaches students the ability to think themselves.
I was told that if the average high school graduates were presented with a problem, they would come up with two to four different scenarios to solve the problem. Were as college graduates when presented with the same problem would come up with six to eight different scenarios to solve the same problem.
It is my opinion that college will give me the ability to increase my critical thinking, something that I can use in all matters of life. Education is important and it is in a college setting where we get to exercise our own opinion and thoughts and to allow ourselves to be formed, challenged and shaped by our college professors enhancing our ability to think and discovering new ways of learning.
What makes me different from other recruits is that I apply myself on and off the field. Being involved in sports over the years had made me learn what hard work and determination means, coming together to reach a common goal. Whether its learning something new in school or learning a new skill in sports, I always try my best and look forward to putting the hard work in.
This is achieved by dedication and lots of practice. Over the years coaches and teachers have told me that I have an open mind and that I'm able to learn things, I adapt well to constructive criticism and I'm open to new ideas. I am also involved in my community, I help out at my church volunteering at various church functions.
