My name is Kayla Gray and I am a 5’5 hardworking shortstop from Wisconsin Dells High School. The game of softball has been an enjoyment of mine for as long as I can remember. As a child, I grew to love the sport while watching my father play. The love I had for the game only increased as I started to play softball at 8 years old, and hasn’t wavered since. I have been a starter on varsity both my freshman and sophomore year. This has allowed me to increase my softball knowledge, enabling me to be a team leader and a stronger player. My biggest accomplishments have been receiving first team all-state as a sophomore, along with unanimous first team all-conference and first team all-district as a freshman and sophomore.
During softball, there are many experiences filled with pressure and learning how to play with the pressure. While I have had many instances of this, the moment that stands out the most is a two run home-run I hit my sophomore season against Westfield. The previous year, Westfield won conference and made a run to state. Not only were they a well-set team, they also had the best pitcher in the conference. My home run allowed us to win the game 3 to 1, and have a chance at winning conference ourselves. It was a huge win and showed my team and I of what we are capable of doing.
While thinking of choosing where I would like to go to college, my options are very broad. My first choice would be to look at midwestern states, but I would be open to going anywhere across the country. The size or location of the school is not something specific I am looking for, rather a good education and an opportunity to play softball. My top considerations for majors are currently Psychology, Business, or Athletic Training. However, my ideas on a major may change during my high school or college career.
