I have loved running since a young age and I have always loved the powerful feeling that comes along with it.
Track has taught me to never give up on myself. Even though every day and every competition can’t be your best, you still never stop trying. I have had to work hard in track, since my high school program doesn’t have either a mid-distance coach, or a high jump coach. After running cross country, it took me by surprise that I was so successful in the 400, 800 and even the 200 and I had to start figuring out on my own what the strategy should be to run those shorter races. In addition, I have had to figure out how to high jump mostly on my own each day, with minimal coaching. And because I play basketball, I don’t have a lot of time to prepare for the beginning of track season each winter. I compete in very few indoor meets because they often conflict with our varsity basketball schedule. I really enjoy all 3 of my varsity sports and I would never consider giving one up, but it’s also exciting to think about what I could be capable of if I were ever given the opportunity to focus strictly on track. My freshman season had me often competing in 4 events at meets, and I really enjoyed the challenge of that.
My high school career is just getting started and after competing at state track in 3 events, and making the medal stand in the 400, it made me even more motivated to return. I want to be an individual state champion someday and go on to compete at the highest level in college.
I am also very motivated academically and I am working hard to achieve my goal of being either valedictorian or salutatorian of my high school class and then attend a college that has an excellent program that can successfully prepare me for a career in medicine or health care.
