My name is Alyssa DiMillo and I am currently a junior at Liverpool High School on track to graduate in June 2021. I reside with my parents and two younger sisters in Liverpool, a beautiful suburb of Syracuse, NY. As graduation is nearing, I am actively looking at colleges that have a major in Sports Management and/or Law as it is my desire to pursue a career in General Sports Management or with a Sports Agency.
I have had an outstanding academic career at Liverpool High School earning consistent honor roll status (2017-present), acceptance into the National Junior Honor Society (2017-2019), an academic letter award for having a GPA of 94.5 or higher (2019), and acceptance into the National Honor Society (2020). I have taken accelerated courses since 7th grade and am currently taking 4 college level classes: AP Physics 1, AP United States History, SUNY Oswego Spanish 201 and OCC Precalculus MAT143. My cumulative High School GPA is slightly above a 96 and my class rank is in the top 30 in a graduating class of approximately 600 students. I took the SAT last year as a sophomore and scored a 1200. I plan to retake it this June and will achieve a higher score.
In addition to strong academic achievement, I have committed myself to a number of extracurricular activities both at Liverpool High School and in my community. I have been a dedicated and enthusiastic member of the Liverpool High School Girls Basketball program since 8th grade and have also been a member of several AAU national travel basketball teams like the Syracuse Nets and Albany City Rocks. In addition to playing basketball, I have also been an assistant coach for several basketball teams including the Liverpool High School Unified team (a co-ed inclusive athletic program for students with intellectual disabilities) and the Liverpool Optimists. This past season I was honored to be asked by Lieutenant Colonel Sean McQuaid to share coaching duties for a 6th grade girls AAU basketball team from Jamesville Dewitt. We won multiple tournament championships and concluded our season with an impressive record of 20-2. Along with my passion for basketball, I also have a strong desire to help my community. I have volunteered my time with Liverpool High School’s Key Club organization, church functions, and youth group activities. Service projects like preparing and serving food at community pantries, raising money for those less fortunate, and assisting with blood drives has humbled me and made me appreciate all I have.
Getting to where I am today has not come without obstacles. In 2014, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Being the oldest sibling, at age 11, meant I needed to step up and be more responsible to help my father with my sisters and the upkeep of our house. Watching my mother fight to become healthy again taught me perseverance. This lesson proved valuable when in 2019, as a member of the Liverpool High School Girls Varsity Basketball team, I tore my ACL, MCL and Meniscus. While devastating at the time, and despite surgery and 6 months of physical therapy, my desire, drive and determination has pushed me to come back from my injury even stronger – both physically and mentally.
