My name is Sofia Maldonado and I have been playing basketball since I was five years old. Since I first touched a basketball, I knew I wanted to play at the collegiate level. I know that playing at that level is a one time opportunity that can change my life for the better. I attack the basket well, strong physical defense, high basketball IQ and have mental toughness. I am a team leader as I have been captain freshman year, sophomore year and senior year. Transferring schools junior year and not being able to play due to transfer rules have helped me become more of a team player and role model off the court. I strive to always do my best on everything I do. I work year round on my basketball skills, playing in Select 40 with my travel team, summer leagues with my friends, lifting two or three times a week to working out every other morning at 5am has helped contribute to my athletic ability. In the classroom, I study hard and maintain a good GPA. I have been on honor roll throughout my high school experience and will continue to be on honor roll at the school I attend. I was MVP of the Alzheimer’s All Star Basketball classic which was the all star game of all of Long Island. I was also a McDonald’s All American Nomine. I want to attend a college where I can push myself on and off the court and in the classroom. I am open to all divisions as I wish to attend a D2 school. I hope to become the best version of myself and make my parents proud.
