I have always been blessed with a natural athletic ability and my parents encouraged me to try many sports. I've competed in Taekwondo, played 2 years up in soccer, held the long jump record during grades 6 & 7 for my county, and placed 5th overall provincially in my final year of gymnastics. It wasn't until grade 7 when my gym teacher insisted that I try basketball and once I did, I knew this was the sport for me.
Having such a late start in basketball has taught me a lot about myself and my ability to persevere and push my body's physical and mental boundaries. I know that any great thing in life worth having doesn't come easy. It takes dedication, passion, hard work and leadership; all things that this sport has taught me. Being a starter on a team is great, I have been a starter on most teams that I have played on. But more than that, I have been honoured to have had my coaches' trust, to have been placed in positions of leadership, to be an example for my teammates. Lifting up their spirits, keeping them motivated, both on and off the court.
I am looking for a program that has a high emphasis on academics as well as athletics so that I can continue to challenge myself to grow as a student athlete. I believe that I will fit well within an aggressive defensive scheme; speed, agility, court vision are just a few of the things that I bring as pass-first point guard. I pride myself on my ability to balance academics with athletics. I believe that these are skills that will take me through my post secondary experience and beyond.
