Going to the third round for playoffs was the highlight of my junior year at Lewisville high school. The varsity women’s team had not made it past the 2nd round in several years, and next year our goal is to make it to the state championships. The 2019/2020 academic year was tremendous year of growth through hardship for me. I sustained a hand injury that could have ended my season, but by the grace of God, my tenacity and with the encouragement and support from my parents and AAU coach, I now realize the temporary setback was a setup for a comeback. You see, I was able to use the month off of the court to improve my shot technique as the injury was not to my dominant hand. I love basketball and I will never forget how devastated I was not being on the floor with my girls. I pushed myself even harder working so that I am capable to play on the college level.
Throughout my years of high school ball and also AAU I’ve learned the true meaning of teamwork, dedication and I am continuing to find my voice as a leader. Basketball has taught me that none of us can do more than the collective efforts of all of us, and this lesson extends beyond the borders of the court. I’m looking for a program that’s best fits for me both academically and athletically because I’m not just an athlete I’m a student athlete. Without a doubt, I believe I have what it takes to compete on the college level, and I know I have what it takes to make a impact on the right team.
