Dayana Hammond '22 Recruiting Profile

 I was raised on a small island in the Virgin Island where many people with great talents are rarely viewed. I've played on an all-boys team for many years because female basketball wasn't popular at the time. Because I was the only girl on my team, my teammates and coaches had low expectations for me which made it harder for me. However, that didn’t change my way of playing basketball. I made sure I stood out in every way. While playing basketball with the boys, I played excellent defense. I've received multiple awards for Best Defense, Most Valuable player, and Best Sportsmanship. Now that I moved to Virginia, I am continuing to demonstrate great teamwork skills and is also dominating on the court. My goal in life is to inspire other young female athletes in the Virgin Islands and around the world that they can do anything they dream of.
