I grew up in a family that has always played volleyball; whether it was indoor or beach. My mother and my two aunts played at the collegiate level and my father and uncle were avid beach players. My exposure to the sport at such a young age sparked my interest for this sport. It wasn't until I began playing in the 7th grade that my little spark turned into a full flame. When I see a volleyball outside of the gym, I cannot resist the urge to pick it up and set to myself. Now, four years later, I am starting on my high school varsity team as a sophomore and competing at both regional and national tournaments. I have a strong passion and drive for this sport and I would love to eventually compete at the collegiate level.
Volleyball is not only teaching me to have a strong work ethic on the court, but it is also teaching me life lessons outside of the gym. For example, to win a volleyball game, one needs to work together as a team to accomplish that common goal which is very similar to most roles in the work place. In addition, I am learning to balance time with physical activities and time needed for school work, which will eventually be replaced with a career. I am learning what it means to lead. There is nothing better than guiding and encouraging my teammates to elevate their play and enjoy the benefit all of us becoming better people and volleyball players.
A few of my latest accomplishments:
This past year I have been selected and participated in the A2 National training in Colorado Springs. This was a great experience to train with Coach Fabe (Ardila) and Coach Manola Concepcion. In addition, I competed as a libero and an outside hitter in the 2018 High Performance championships in Tulsa with the Iroquois Empire Region team. Also, this past summer my team mate and I placed 1st in a USA BEACH qualifier in Rochester NY. We also earned a bid to Siesta Key at the Ocean City tournament. During my highschool season, I was selected as "ALL-STAC" 1st team.
My drive and will to win, I believe, is an asset to my team. Every time I pick up a volleyball I am striving to get better and make everyone around me better. My ideal program is one that encourages hard work, respect and discipline so that we can attack any hurdle together and enjoy accomplishing huge feats.
