After I have an interaction with someone, I like to think that either they see me as a good person or that I have brightened their day. I love to make people happy, so one of the ways I try to accomplish that is by making them laugh. I don’t do this all the time though because I try to sense the mood and see what’s appropriate during that time. Hence why some of my friends have told me that I am “chill” or easy to talk to. Not only do I do this but I also try to be honest and support them. I’d say that this gives them a sense of reassurance that I will always be there for them if they need me and that if they ever need their mood to be boosted or someone to talk to, that I’ll be there to help.
My parents have taught me the value of friendship which has ended up helping me in so many ways. Diving has been a big part of my life since I was in seventh grade. It has shaped me as a person and given me motivation that I need. This motivation has allowed me to be more optimistic and energetic. Not only has diving shaped me, but it has also shaped some friendships. The girls I’ve been diving with for most of my career are some of my best friends now. The support we have for one another and friendly competition is what helps make diving so fun. We push one another to be better and try to keep a positive mindset.
I don’t think I’ve actually realized how much my parents have supported or helped me over my diving career until I was told to write these paragraphs. Looking back, I don’t think I’d be as motivated or energetic or anything really without them. They try their best to come to all my meets, even the 11 dive ones where they have to wake up crazy early. Not only that but they also try to help as much as they can. Sometimes during dual meets, I see them working the table or timing the swimmers when they’re racing. My dad even made an app on his phone to help him calculate my scores when he’s not volunteering. They try to help any way they can, even if that means they have to run to target in the middle of an 11 dive meet to buy me an extra towel. I truly am very grateful for them, even if I don’t say it all the time.
