Hello! My name is Lily. I would like to give you an overview of my goals and aspirations as a student and an athlete. I have been involved in sports my whole life and played soccer, lacrosse and basketball. After my 9th grade high school season, I decided to give up soccer. My grandparents bought me golf clubs and I fell in love with the game. I started taking lessons, and joined a local golf league last summer. I tried out and made the Varsity Golf team at my high school (Bel Air High School). I was one of 10 players and the only female. Our last tournament I shot an 89. My Pro Coach/trainer, Matt Ferguson, said I am a natural athlete and to keep pursuing golf. I continued lessons and practicing throughout the winter and spring months. I also play lacrosse and basketball in high school, but lacrosse season was cancelled due to COVID. Golf courses closed for a few months, but once they opened I joined the Under Armour Junior League and Junior PGA league. I averaged 50 on every game. During my senior I was the captain of our team. I averaged a 44 for 9 holes and shot my lowest of 38 for 9 holes. I qualified for states individually shooting an 89 and we also qualified as a team. At the end of our season I was named MVP of our team and we were awarded with 2nd team all county. I know I need to get my scores down to compete at a collegiate level, but feel I am on the right track after only playing for a few years. I can already see a difference after getting my new fitted clubs. I am going to play a few tournaments through Peggy Kurt Bell, based on advice from my Coach. I have a few coming up and am confident I can lower my scores. I look forward to the next few weeks of golf.
I would like to attend a 4 year university at a division I or II level, and major in Engineering/minor in Architecture. Academically, I have a GPA of 3.75. It is difficult to participate in clubs and after school activities, since I play three sports in high school, but I volunteer in my spare time. I volunteer with Volunteen, who partnered with the Leo Club. We participate in a variety of volunteer opportunities, from cooking and serving lunch for the homeless, painting rocks and making inspirational gifts for local hospitals, to cleaning up local parks. It feels great to give back to the community.
I look forward to next steps in choosing a college.
