I am THIRSTY to be a strong candidate for your golf program.
T = Tenacious; I don’t give up on myself in school or at golf; e.g., when I played in the NYS Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) girls golf state championship in June 2022, I approached the last day with determination to do better and moved up in the rankings with a lower score; likewise, my high school experience was interrupted with virtual learning during COVID, but I work hard to make up for lost time
H = Hard Working Student Athlete; My weighted GPA is 100.69/100, and I am consistently named a scholar athlete; I look for every opportunity to practice and play golf: participating in CNY Jr PGA events; utilizing my golf course membership to play there and at reciprocal courses; using the driving range and putting greens during work breaks as a golf equipment assistant at a private Donald Ross golf course; playing this same Donald Ross course weekly with the permission of the golf pro; purchasing a golfdome membership for winter months
I = Inquisitive; Since I started playing golf in earnest in 7th grade, I needed to close the gap quickly with other players; I therefore am not afraid to ask questions of my coaches about how to improve and why certain recommendations are made; as a result, I have been the medalist in nearly every qualifying varsity match I have played for the last two years in 9th and 10th grades
R = Room for Improvement; Despite having improved my game in high school, I strive to be better in terms of skill, score, mental focus, and physical strength; I attended a weeklong golf camp at IMG Academy in Feb 2023; I look forward to college helping me improve in each of these areas of golf, as well as challenging me academically
S = Social; I like meeting people and getting to know them, particularly fellow golfers and coaches; I enjoy my high school varsity teammates and even though golf is an individual sport, I understand the importance of team unity
T = Teachable; I recognize that I still have a lot to learn about my game and my classes in school; I readily welcome constructive criticism and suggestions from my coaches and teachers
Y = Yearn to Play College Golf; I want the college golf experience to introduce me to a more sophisticated approach to golf and to afford the benefit of a support network as I begin my college career in a new setting away from home
To summarize, I maintain that I would bring to your program excellence in academics, solid foundational golf skills and an eagerness to do better. It is my hope to maintain high grades while lowering my golf score and playing regularly for your team in competitive matches.
