My collegiate goals and and aspirations include achieving a Sports Management Degree as well as studying in the PGA Golf Management Program. I have always enjoyed playing sports and have developed a passion for playing golf, soccer and running. In obtaining a degree in PGA Golf Management as well as a degree in Sports Management I am not only hoping to enhance my ambitions of playing professional golf but to help others in meeting or exceeding their sports related goals.
I am a good candidate for the team because I maintain a positive attitude in everything I approach. It is important to prioritize and set goals. My priorities are and always will be my family, education, community, then athletics. Without my family and education I couldn't achieve the things that I set out to achieve. If I injure myself while playing sports and not having an education to fall back on; then what would be the next plan of action.
I am different from other recruits in character, athletics, and academics because my priorities remain my family, education, volunteering in the community, then athletics while maintaining a quirky and positive attitude. Although, I am not a great test taker, I aspire to stay on A/B honor roll in order for my mom to approve me playing multiple sports. She has always enforced school before athletics; which makes me work harder in order to do the things I love to do outside of school.
During practices and matches, I try to keep myself and others in a positive mindset. Not every bad shot results in a bad lie. You might have a better second shot than you expected. Although I may push hard during practice or even games; the intention is to better every person on the team as well as the opposing team. If a player is not doing well or injured; it is important to pick them up and to provide encouragement. If I was not playing well or injured, I would want someone to do that for me.
I have a strong passion for the game of golf and because of that passion, and with the assistance from my parents, I was able to put together the first ever girl's golf team for Southwest Onslow High School. I played on the boy's golf team my freshman year with the goal of putting together a girl's team. In order to do this, I had to give up the love for another sport, soccer. After the boy's season, I was told I could put together a girl's team; however there was no funding available and no coach. So my parents and I set out to get over 20 sets of donated clubs and I convinced my dad to volunteer as an assistant coach; resulting in him coaching both the girl's and the boy's golf teams.
Overall, I am quirky, passionate, and unique with "out of the box" thinking. I am confident in the person and appreciate others for being themselves. My mom has always encouraged me to be me and not to conform to everyone else, it is okay to be quirky and silly because right now is the time to be a teen, to make good decisions, and there is always time to be an adult.
Lastly, there is always a different way to achieve the same result. Just because someone gets there a little differently does not mean their way was wrong. If the result is nine, you can add 3+6, multiply 3x3, or subtract 3 from 12; all of which result in nine.
Thank you,
Michayla "MK" Wittner
