I have been around the game of golf my entire life as my dad, my sister and my grandparents are avid golfers. When I was younger, I would occasionally go to the driving range or ride along on the golf course and play a few holes, but at that time ballet was my true passion. As I went through middle school my love of dance waned, and during the spring of 2020 I decided that I wanted to try and play golf for my high school team during my upcoming freshman year. To my good fortune, I connected with an amazing coach who refined my skills, and encouraged and mentored me and I fell in love with the game of golf. To my surprise, I made my high school varsity reserve team my freshman year. My love of golf was deepened by the opportunity to be around some great golfers and watching the habits it took to be successful.
I am proud to say that I cut my 18 hole average in 2021 from around 110 to the low 90s. As such, I have also been able to lower my handicap from 24.4 to 19.2 in 2021, to 14.9 in 2022. Not only am I proud of my scoring on the course, I am also proud of my 4.5 GPA, which includes several AP and honors courses. It is easy to say that I wouldn't be able to accomplish these successes without the support of my family. Whether it's doing a putting drill with me in the kitchen, sitting on the range while I hit, walking along while I play a round, or finding workshops or online opportunities to learn more about the educational fields I am excited about, my parents are providing me the opportunity to achieve my goals.
In the next few years, my goals are to continue to lower my average score, become a contender in regional and state tournaments, and to play golf in college. I look forward to continue to follow my interest in math/statistics, data science, and computer science in college, and ultimately in a career.
If I am able to play golf in college, I hope to be a valuable member of the team, and that the university I would represent wound provide me an exceptional education.
