Hello! My name is Victoria Geiger. I grew up both playing hockey and trying as hard as I could in school. Now that high school is about to start for me, I've begun to focus on my future. As a high level student, I have so many options as to where I can go with my future. The thing that I have decided to focus on is biomedical engineering. I know that my goal for college is to be accepted into an Ivy League school, but as long as I can play hockey and as long as they have some form of engineering as a major, any school works! In fact, recently, I became the first from my district to be accepted into a nearby county engineering academy that is one of the top STEM schools in the country. While the school does not have a hockey team, I plan to continue playing for club teams throughout my high school years.
One of the ways I know I stand out from other candidates is my dedication to my team. This past season, I missed only one game and one practice, both due to scheduled events I could not control. I try to keep my team working together. The spring and summer before this past season, I met with a trainer to help myself bring up my endurance and speed, knowing my team would need me. Another thing I feel is different about me is how I play the game. I may not be the fastest or have the fanciest stick-handling skills, but I am able to do something else useful. I understand the technical side of the game, such as where the puck needs to go at anytime and how to get it there. Even though I may not be the fastest, I know how to make up for it while not over compensating. At almost any moment of the game, I know where my teammates are around the rink, almost as if I have a map in my head.
Though I am only just entering my freshman year of high school, I feel as if it is a good idea to get myself out there to college coaches. My teachers are always talking about being prepared for the future, and I definitely agree with them, especially regarding hockey and college. As high school goes on, I'll continue to update my profile with any important information. Once again my name is Victoria Geiger, thank you for reading this.
