Athletes must possess very particular attributes to succeed. One of my most important attributes is my time management ability. I am very fortunate to be a three-sport athlete. I play soccer, basketball, and lacrosse for Bayport-Blue Point High School and I am proud to represent my school year-round. To gain strength and improve my speed and agility, I also train twice each week at Procare Athletic Performance. I follow a very specific individually tailored training program during these training sessions and I truly love seeing my gains in the gym.
Additionally, I also play both travel soccer and travel lacrosse. While juggling the demands of a multi-sport athlete, it has been most important to succeed in the academic classroom. I am in four accelerated courses Advanced Placement and honors) and despite my athletic and academic demands, I have maintained a 95% average and the Principal's Honor roll status each marking period. Likewise, I am also a trained cellist and perform five times yearly in my high school's orchestra.
Athletes, myself included, are "fierce competitors" and want to win at all costs; however, I believe what sets athletes apart is their dedication to continued self-improvement through hard work and their willingness to train selflessly and make selfless decisions, both on and off the field. My parents have always taught me to "show up" rather than "show out". Their ONLY expectation of me has always been to simply be the hardest-working athlete on the field/court. They have told me to pay attention to the little details in life...to actually "sweat the small stuff", that way the big things will naturally fall into place. If I had to describe my best attributes on the field/court, I would say that I am a true team player and I value my team's success over that of my own personal accolades. I am goal-oriented and self-motivated so I spend a lot of time practicing on my own, outside of team training. I believe that I truly see the field well and I make smart decisions throughout practice and game play. I am also coachable and I always want to learn more. As a well-rounded multi-sport athlete, I have learned from so many great coaches and I know that I have developed as an athlete and person because of their influence.
I am looking forward to finding the college that is right for me both academically and athletically. I will continue to challenge myself as a high school student-athlete and I will be sure to do the same as a collegiate student-athlete.
