Hello, my name is Mia Ruiz and I’m a rising senior at Fayetteville Academy in Fayetteville, NC. Starting the sport of lacrosse my freshman year was definitely a challenge since I was somewhat behind in skills and learning how to play the game compared to my teammates. Through my years of lacrosse, I have improved tremendously through my coaches and teammates and lax camps at colleges, such as USF Elite Lacrosse Camp. As a defender, and sometimes midi when in need, I have been able to and more than willing to work with others as well as connect with them, whether it be coaches, trainers, and the team it self. I don’t try to react I try to dictate or drive before the midi or attacker can make a move with also being fast on my feet. I have been first team all county and all conference, received the improvement award my first year, and have earned the top defender award for the past two years. My goal is to go on a DI or DII to play with high performance athletes that make me better and make my future school better. I want to represent my school with my sport and the way I play. I’m willing to put on the work and time to make my game and skill better as well as mentally and physically grind. I am able to take constructive criticism and as well as listen to coaches and teammates. With over a 3.5 gpa each year in my high school career, I have been able to maintain honors and AP classes with high grades, as well as take on four sports including lacrosse. Playing basketball, and running cross country has given me hand and eye coordination as well as endurance in my game of lacrosse. With all of that, I’m hoping to earn and work my way up and hopefully be a collegiate lacrosse athlete.
