I started crew my freshmen year of high school as a rower. I was put in a novice four and eventually placed 3rd at the NYS championship in the novice four. I then decided to try being a coxswain, because of my weight and height. Since I was originally a rower, it was easier for me to understand the technical part of the stroke and how to fix certain mistakes throughout a stroke.
Crew has helped me realize teamwork. In a boat it doesn’t just matter how well you’re doing, it matters how everyone is doing as a whole. If I’m not doing my job to the best of my ability then I am not helping the team. Crew is what gets me throw my day. Going to practice and regattas and working my hardest is what makes me happiest. Everyday I can’t wait to get on the water and learn how to be a better coxswain.
As well as succeeding in crew, I participate in several other activities including student council, National Honor Society, mock trial, concert band, jazz band, and marching band. I have been on the first honor roll my whole high school career, while challenging myself in both AP classes and honors courses.
