My name is Emily, and I'm apart of the graduating class of 2022. Throughout my entire life, I have always been very active. I used to compete in volleyball, tennis, equestrian, and soccer. I was also a competitive dancer. In fall 2018, (my freshman year of high school), I joined the rowing team. Instantly I fell in love with the sport. I made the decision to discontinue all of my other sports to put my attention all on rowing. I'm very competitive, and constantly worked and pushed myself to be the best I could possibly be for my coaches and my team. Aside from sports, I want to study forensic science/psychology. Academics have always been my top priority, I know I cannot succeed in life without a proper education. I'm enrolled in advanced placement courses (one year ahead of my usual grade level) in science and mathematics, and am taking honors history and AP literature for my junior year. I also make it a point to be positive. Even when we have a rough practice, a hard erg piece, or a bad race, I always try my best to life everyone's spirits. I believe that good and bad days is ultimately what bonds a team together. It gives everyone an opportunity to learn and grow from their mistakes together to make a faster, stronger, and happier team. I believe that support from those around you can go a long way, so I always contribute on my team in every way that I can. Weather it's coxing someone through a 2k or running with them to make sure they don't give up, I always make sure to put a smile on their face, and remember why they are there in the first place. Simply to row, because that's what we love to do. All of the early mornings, ripped hands, torn muscles, frostbite hands and feet, etc. is completely worth it to me. Rowing is my outlet, my one thing that keeps me sane. High school has been difficult, and when it felt like no one around me cared, I had rowing to keep me afloat. I get up excited to go to practice after my classes. I can't picture myself in the future not rowing. I truly believe I'm different than other girls in the sense that I don't just do this sport to "stay active", or to "do a sport in college." I do it because it makes me feel alive. The rush I get from racing is something I would never want to give up in a million years.
