Hello, my name is McKayla Priest. I am 15 years old and currently a sophomore at Elizabeth High School in Colorado. I have been playing soccer since I was 4 and have been playing competitive leagues since I was 9. Soccer allows me to focus my energy in a positive way. Communicating with my teammates on the field allows me to be a leader, which helps me and others on and off the field. Communication and leadership on the field has helped me build my confidence in the way of improving my skills and movements, specifically in 1v1’s and in offensive aspects. As a player, I am known for always being open to feedback and trying new things, as well as for my ability to break away with the ball and put offensive pressure on opponents.
I have a strong interest in double majoring in forensics and art. My unique personal background has prepared me to think critically about the world around me. I have a number of diverse experiences in my life history: living in both very liberal and very conservative areas, experiencing my father battling cancer, and being involved in a BSA scout troop. This has widened my view of the world and how people act in different situations, and made me adaptable with people who have different views. These experiences helped me develop resilience and support my interest in problem-solving. As soon as I figure out a situation, I feel a sense of accomplishment which then allows me to solve another problem quicker as I piece it together from the information I’ve already obtained. This is why I would like to study forensics and art as they both complement each other.
