Aloha,
My name is Jade Alverio, I am 16 years old and currently a Junior at Mililani High School. I will be graduating in 2023.
I have been playing soccer since I was 5 years old. I enjoyed participating in basketball, volleyball, track and cross-country; but soccer is no doubt my absolute #1 favorite sport. I would imagine playing in the big, beautiful stadiums whenever I watched the college and professional players games. I just always knew that I wanted to go to college and play soccer.
My freshman year at Mililani High we won the JV OIA State Championships for the 20th year in a row we did “#20 in 2020”. Due to COVID in Hawaii we did not get to have a 2020-2021 season. I was able to use that time to travel and play on the RUSH showcase team in Arizona, Texas, Tennessee, California, Colorado and North Carolina. I just completed an incredible varsity high school season where we won the OIA State Championships. Playing for my high school and community is an exciting experience. I play year-round club soccer for Hawaii Rush 05g. My main positions on the field are forward, wing, and middle. I am an all-around player and a finisher. One of my biggest strengths on the field is playmaking. I am good at feeding the ball for the score. I am diligent, hardworking, and eager to learn on and off the field. I always try to think a step ahead and have another option in case something does not work out. I am a good communicator with my teammates keeping us aware of our positions and surroundings.
Being on the shorter side people tend to underestimate me. My height has never affected my game play. I learned to train hard to be quick, purposeful, and accurate. My legs are on the longer side, so I use that to my advantage to take off when I need to. I am also good at maneuvering my body to win the ball from players. Soccer is super competitive in Hawaii. We battle hard on the field but being on an island, we need to travel to play against new opponents. I have been extremely fortunate to be on travel teams over the last 6 years, play in showcases, tournaments and attend soccer camps all over the US. In 2020 with covid-19 sports shut down I was invited to play on the RUSH Regional Showcase Team. It has been such a great experience meeting and learning from players and coaches from all over the country. I learned to focus on managing my time between online classes, assignment deadlines and games. I also learned how to adapt and perform out of my comfort zone in different climates, conditions, and surroundings.
I strive to do my best in school. I am a hard-working student; my cumulative GPA is 3.8. I hope to study business and fashion design in college. I started my first small business at 12, the experience and success from that sparked my desire to run my own company one day.
I hope to see you on the field. Blessings and Aloha.
