Personal Statement

My name is Lanre Famakinwa, and I am a junior. My soccer career started in a small league in Boston, caleed the Little Kickers. The only memory I have from that league is dribbling past the other team and scoring so much that they decided to have 2 goalkeepers (which did not work, to their dismay). As I got older, dribbling stuck with me- it is my best attribute in soccer. In middle school, the mother of one of my teammates suggested I play travel soccer.  Ever since then, I have played for the Cecil Dynamite and won (7 trophies and 3 medals). I even got into the local newspaper However, one of the challenges I faced was when I had to decide to either go to my orchestra concert (I was the concertmistress) or to go to tryouts. I was trying out for a new team, Kirkwood SC, and they were the best team in the league. I made the tough decsion to play for the orchestra, but the Kirkwood team contacted me and said I could still play for them because they saw how well I dribbled when my former team played against them. Even though I had practice a few times a week, I always went outside with my brother on the weekends and played with him. My hard work and determination to be the best helped me to improve my passing and dribbling skills, whcih led me to winning multiple awars in middle school and making the All-Star Team in freshman year. Even though I have played soccer throughout my life, it is not my only passion. I have always valued school as well as soccer. Playing socer and keeping good grades in school has helped me to improve my time management skills. With a 1360 SAT score and a 3.8 cumulative I spend most of my time studying and practicing. In conclusion, because of my hard work and time managment skills I think I can be a good fit for many teams.
