I have been in love with soccer since I joined my first soccer team at age 5. We were just starting kindergarten, didn’t know each other, and didn’t know much about soccer. Over the course of that first year, we became great friends, learned how to work together, and I began to understand what an incredible experience could be gained by being part of a team.
Over the years, I have grown to appreciate the thrill of competition and pushing yourself, even when it might not be easy, the value of being someone others can count on, through good times and bad, and the confidence one gains by being in situations when the pressure is on, knowing that careful preparation can be impactful. Soccer is a game- a game I love, but I appreciate that I am gaining an important tool set that will help prepare me to be successful in many aspects of life.
I am passionate about taking the skills that have been bestowed upon me to make an impact in the world. In college, I seek to play soccer in an academic setting where I can be challenged, and to develop to the next level as a soccer player and student. Soccer has been a huge part of my life ever since I was five years old. It is a truly exhilarating sport for which I have been fortunate to experience great success, make great friends, and compete at a high level. I also have great aspirations for a productive and enriching academic experience. I enjoy challenging myself in school and in soccer.
A year ago, my family and I moved from Michigan to NY which also provided me the opportunity to join the US Development Academy (DA) NYSC team. This new experience allowed me to form even more friendships with new teammates and to compete at a high level against some of the best teams in my region and also in the nation. Every day while I am playing soccer I am surrounded by great coaches and teammates who help me to improve as a soccer player, a teammate, and a leader. I also enjoy challenging myself in school and understand the importance of a quality education. I enjoy learning both on the field and in the classroom which is why I have continued to enroll and succeed in an honors curriculum. I am constantly pushing myself to become an even better soccer player and student. Along with these challenges come the occasional set backs. However, the classroom and soccer have taught me how to be resilient and understand the process of learning and development.
Helping out in the community is also very important to me. In my prior school, I would work with children with disabilities almost every day. In addition to working with these children, I am looking forward to volunteering at a summer camp for a couple of weeks next summer. I’m also going to be looking forward into joining more clubs this upcoming school year and finding more volunteering opportunities in my community.
