Katie Ottman '20 Recruiting Profile

My collegiate goals and aspirations are to get a degree and not only make myself a better athlete, but contribute to a positive team environment where I can help others improve as well. 

I started swimming a little later  then most people my age have. I joined a summer league team when I was 9 or 10 and absolutely fell in love with the sport. At this point, I realized that I didn’t want to just swim in the summer. My mom asked me if I wanted to swim year round and my answer was an easy yes. For a while I swam with kids who were 3 or 4 years younger than me, but I quickly moved up groups. 

Since then, I have greatly improved making 2 Sectionals in the 50 and 100 Free. I am a positive leader and I am going into the start of the season being team captain for the second year in a row. I don’t just focus on improving my times, although that is important. I ask myself how the team can improve as a whole.
